GIFE congressThe 7th GIFE Congress took place in São Paulo, Brazil last month, gathering over 1,500 leaders of governments and NGOs, academia and foundations; 115 speakers; and many different topics and formats – open space, lectures, debates, cultural evenings and meetings – making it the biggest event ever held on philanthropy by GIFE. Among the speakers who addressed the general theme of new frontiers of social investment were former President of Brazil Fernando Henrique Cardoso, Christopher Pinney from the Aspen Institute and US Council of Foundations and Barry Knight from CENTRIS in the UK. Topics discussed included the change from ‘classic’ philanthropy to investment, the role of the new generation leaders of family foundations with a stronger desire for social impact, and the governance of non-profit organizations.
